Gazi 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion

Our center organized the program titled “Gazi 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion”

The program, held at the Mimar Kemaleddin Hall, was attended by our University Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Yücel Gelişli, Prof. Dr. Fazlı Polat, and Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır, Rector Advisors Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Bülbül and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Temel Çakıroğlu, General Secretary Ragıp Akyürek, Assistant General Secretaries Mehmet Ali Özkan and Ayhan Selçuk, Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Necmi İlhan, Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Dr. Kahraman Güngör, Faculty of Pharmacy Dean Prof. Dr. İlkay Erdoğan Orhan, Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Mahmut Selvi, Faculty of Science Dean Prof. Dr. Suat Kıyak, as well as academic and administrative staff, and the 50th anniversary alumni of our University.

The event, which began with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, continued with a presentation of photographs of academics who have served as graduates of our university.

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Günaydın, Director of the Career Planning Application and Research Center, said, “When Kemal Ökçün and Mehmet Bey visited us, we decided to organize the alumni reunion program driven by a desire to reconnect with former classmates, a sense of belonging, and loyalty. I would like to thank everyone involved in organizing the program, especially our Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, and express my appreciation to all our dear guests for their participation. I wholeheartedly commemorate those members and alumni who have passed away. I hope our current students also celebrate their 50th graduation anniversary, and may our state and our university continue to celebrate many more centuries and graduations.”

In his speech, Kemal Ökçün, the Chair of the Organizing Committee, said, “We are honored and proud to be graduates of Gazi University. We are individuals who have served in the highest levels of government administration. We take pride in all of them and thank our professors for educating us.”

Aclan Acar, a Member of the Board of Trustees at TED University, stated, “Ankara Academy of Economic and Commercial Sciences, which we graduated from, had a very special mission in our country. University education is not only a place for scientific research but also an educational institution that prepares individuals for life and the working life. As a result, graduates found opportunities to work in significant positions both in the private sector and in the public sector. For that reason, I extend my gratitude to the professors who educated us.”

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ömer Lalik provided information on the development processes of the academies which were established in 1955 and their integration into universities. He noted that these schools have trained significant contributors to our country today.

Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız began his speech by saying, “Welcome to our 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion program. To our respected alumni who studied at the valuable faculties of our university and have never lost their sense of belonging to our institution despite the passage of half a century, I greet you with my heartfelt regards.”

Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız continued his speech as follows: “Exactly 50 years ago today, each of you, despite various challenges, came from different parts of our country with great hopes and became part of a strong family in the warm and sincere environment of Gazi University. During the first half-century of our Republic, you were motivated and driven by the sense of independence, and with a passion for enlightenment and development needed by our country, you strived to acquire universal knowledge under the light of science, becoming pioneering academics in your fields.

Since its establishment, Gazi university has looked towards the East, which is the source of the values of our deep-rooted civilization, also on the other hand, it has looked towards the West by being motivated to advance in science and technology. I also graduated from this honored institution, sharing the same feelings and thoughts as you, in 1988. I would like to express my pride in graduating from the same institution, Gazi University, and being a member of the same family as you.”

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, concluded his speech by saying, “We hope that the 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion, where we experience the privilege of being a Gazi together, will continue to be a tradition at our university for many years. As I end my words here, I want to express that we are always with you, without considering any time restrictions, to truly embody the phrase 'Being a Gazi is a privilege.' Welcome back to your university that you graduated, and I greet you all with my warmest feelings.”

Later in the program, on behalf of the Organizing Committee, a portrait of Atatürk which is painted by Halil Erden and a book about the struggle in Cyprus which is written by Mustafa Arıkan (the President of the Erenköy Fighters Association), and also a thank-you plaque are presented to Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız.

The program continued with the presentation of plaques to the 50th Anniversary alumni of Gazi University and graduates who are currently serving as academics at the university. These plaques were presented by Rector Prof. Dr. Musa Yıldız, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Yücel Gelişli, Prof. Dr. Fazlı Polat, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Bayındır, Rector Advisors Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Bülbül and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Temel Çakıroğlu, Secretary General Ragıp Akyürek, Assistant Secretary Generals Mehmet Ali Özkan and Ayhan Selçuk, as well as the faculty deans.

"Gazi 50th Anniversary Alumni Reunion" program concluded with the cutting of the 50th anniversary cake and a commemorative group photo.
