The "CIVIL ANKARA 2025" event, organised by our Career Planning Application and Research Centre (KAPUM) and the Construction Society, one of our university's student societies, was held with great participation.

The programme held at the Gazi Concert Hall was attended by Altındağ Deputy Mayor Abdurrahman Keleş, Ankara Branch President of the Chamber of Architects Derya Başyılmaz, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen and Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer, Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Musa Atar, our Director of KAPUM Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Günaydın, industry representatives, academics, directors, guests, and students.

The programme began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, followed by an opening speech by Arif Yalçın Yalçın, President of the Construction Community. Arif Yalçın Yalçın stated that they organise the Civil Ankara event as a community every year and concluded his speech by talking about the objectives of the Civil Ankara programme.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Musa Atar stated that the foundations of the Faculty of Technology were laid in 1937. Sharing the number of students and academic staff at the faculty with those attending the programme, Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Musa Atar said that Gazi University Faculty of Technology is one of the best institutions in Turkey for training applied engineers. Stating that they worked hard to improve the quality of education at the faculty, Dean of the Faculty of Technology Prof. Dr. Musa Atar thanked those who contributed to these activities, emphasising their importance.

Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen shared the Rectorate's perspective on the event. Emphasising that civil engineering is one of the important fields of today and the future, Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen stated that Turkey is an earthquake-prone country and that young civil engineers have important tasks to fulfil in this regard. Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen concluded his remarks by emphasising that he believed this event would make a significant contribution to the professional development of students.

Derya Başyılmaz, President of the Ankara Branch of the Chamber of Architects, who had the final word at the opening, said that this was her second time participating in this event. Derya Başyılmaz, President of the Ankara Branch of the Chamber of Architects, pointed out that architecture and engineering directly affect human life and concluded her speech by thanking those who contributed to the organisation of the programme.

Following the opening speeches, Altındağ Deputy Mayor Abdurrahman Keleş gave his presentation during the first session of the event. The programme concluded with group photos taken after the other sessions.

On the second day of the event, Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu visited our university as part of the “Civil Ankara 2025” event and met with our students.

The "CIVIL ANKARA 2025" event, organised by our University's Career Planning Application and Research Centre (KAPUM) and the Construction Society, one of our University's student societies, on 19-20 February 2025, continued to attract great interest. On the second day of the event, the programme began with a moment of silence and the Turkish national anthem in the Rectorate's Mimar Kemaleddin Hall.

Our University Career Planning Application and Research Centre Director Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yusuf Günaydın and 4th-year student of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Technology, and member of the Civil Engineering Society "CIVIL ANKARA" Event Organising Committee Chairman Arif Yalçın Yalçın expressed their gratitude to the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and our University Rectorate for their support in organising the event.

Our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen, who is a civil engineer, thanked Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu for visiting our University with the aim of guiding the future of our young people and sharing his experiences. Prof. Dr. Karyeyen emphasised that events such as "Civil Ankara 2025" provided an opportunity to bring together leading representatives of the sector and our students, and that these events played an important role in increasing our students' knowledge, expertise and experience.

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu gave a detailed presentation titled “International Corridors” on the geopolitical importance of our country and its transport infrastructure. In his presentation to students, academics and industry representatives, Minister Uraloğlu discussed Turkey's mega projects and investments in transportation and communications. Minister Uraloğlu, who is also a civil engineer, began his speech by expressing his delight at meeting with the students.

Minister Uraloğlu emphasised that Turkey is located in a region where 67 countries and 1.5 billion people live within a 4-hour flight distance. Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu pointed out that Turkey is also at the intersection of transport corridors, saying, "We are in a very beautiful geographical location in the world." As the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Uraloğlu stated that they transport people, cargo and data, and also mentioned that they manage logistics, mobility and digitalisation. Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu noted that they have made approximately $290 billion in investments in Turkey in the field of transport over the past 23 years.

Minister Uraloğlu also gave advice to young people, emphasising the importance of knowing a foreign language. Uraloğlu also emphasised that they could receive training without even attending a course at BTK Academy.

Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu emphasised the need for regulations on social media access for children under the age of 16 and stated that work on this issue is ongoing. Following his presentation, which attracted considerable interest from the audience, Minister Uraloğlu answered questions from students.

The event concluded with a group photo after our Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen and Arif Yalçın Yalçın, Chairman of the Organising Committee of our University's Construction Society "CIVIL ANKARA" Event, presented certificates of appreciation to Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
