The event organised by Gazi University Faculty of Sports Sciences, titled ‘Our National Shooters from Gazi Meet with Students,’ brought together our university students and national athletes Yusuf Dikeç and Şevval İlayda Tarhan. The programme, which attracted considerable interest, was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal, Vice-Rectors Prof. Dr. Hasan Tezer, Prof. Dr. Serhat Karyeyen, Secretary General Mustafa Afşar, Rector's Advisors Prof. Dr. Selami Candan, Prof. Dr. Serhat Polat, Dr. Ahmet Bilal Dostbil, Dr. Meryem Böcek, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Cicioğlu, Deputy General Secretaries Dr. Lecturer Sena Aydoğan, Ayhan Selçuk, faculty members, and students.

The programme began with a moment of silence and the recitation of the Turkish National Anthem, followed by an opening speech by our Rector, Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal. Prof. Dr. Ünal stated that the achievements of our national athletes Yusuf Dikeç and Şevval İlayda Tarhan are a source of pride for our country and our University, and that the experiences they will share will be a source of inspiration. Expressing his pleasure and honour in welcoming our university graduates Yusuf Dikeç and İlayda Tarhan, our Rector Prof. Dr. Ünal presented plaques to our national athletes.

Following Prof. Dr. Uğur Ünal's opening speech, the event moved on to a question and answer session, moderated by Dean Prof. Dr. Halil İbrahim Cicioğlu. Prof. Dr. Cicioğlu stated that our university has trained many successful athletes and said that he was proud to share the same environment with our national athletes Yusuf Dikeç and Şevval İlayda Tarhan today.

National shooter Yusuf Dikeç began his speech by describing how he became involved in shooting sports. Expressing that he worked diligently after becoming interested in the sport, Dikeç said, ‘It's not enough to just be interested; you have to work hard to be successful.’

Emphasising that he developed himself thanks to the education he received at Gazi University, Dikeç drew attention to Turkey's success in the Olympics, saying, ‘After wrestling and weightlifting, shooting has also become Turkey's leader in the Olympics.’

Our national athlete Yusuf Dikeç advised the students in the hall to discover their talents and believe in themselves, while announcing that his goal is the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

Şevval İlayda Tarhan expressed her happiness at graduating from Gazi University, saying, “Being a Gazi student is a privilege. I am very happy to be here, to have graduated from this school, and to be part of this family.”

In response to a question from the audience about shooting being a sport for men, Tarhan said, ‘If men can do it, why can't women?’ Talking about his goals in his sporting career, our national athlete Tarhan said that he is preparing for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and that his goal is to bring multiple medals to our country.

The programme continued with questions from students and ended with a group photo.
