On May 14, an “Alumni-Student Reunion” event was held in collaboration between the Department of Turkish and Social Sciences Education, Division of History Education, at Gazi Faculty of Education, and Gazi University Career Planning Application and Research Centre (KAPUM).
The event, held in the F Block Conference Hall, was attended by Chair of the Department of History Education Prof Dr Yasemin Demircan, academic advisor to the Gazi History Society Prof Dr Güray Kırpık, faculty members Prof Dr Hamza Keleş and Prof Dr Nejla Günay, Research Assistant İbrahim Onur Yılmaz, and Deputy Director of KAPUM Dr Yusuf Ziya Aktaş.
The program started with the trailer prepared by Gazi History Society students. Afterward, graduates answered students’ questions by sharing their career journeys and professional experiences with the future history teachers.
Prof Dr Hamza Keleş moderated the panel, and the speakers included Murat Usta, a history teacher at the Tevfik İleri Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Yenimahalle, Ankara; Dr Halim Kılıç, Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Hacı Bayram Veli University; Hasan Kaya, Branch Director at the Presidency of State Archives; and Dr Zübeyde Tiryakioğlu, an instructor at the Yunus Emre Academy of the National Education Academy.
Graduates shared insights on their career experiences, and university memories, as well as steps that future history teachers would have to take. This sincere panel was followed by the participants with much interest.
At the end of the program, speakers were given certificates of appreciation by Prof Dr Yasemin Demircan and alumni cards by KAPUM Deputy Director Dr Yusuf Ziya Aktaş. The event concluded with a group photo.
